Congratulations on your pregnancy! It doesn’t matter if this is your first or fourth, being pregnant is very special and happy times for any woman. If you decide to have a maternity photo session for yourself, steps and things you need to know prior your photo session. Being Maternity Photographer for the past 10 years, there are the couple of questions that are being raised by every woman that ever called me. When should I do my photographs? Nowadays I say about 34-36 week of your pregnancy but if you been active during your pregnancy and didn’t get to much weight which is about 10-30 pounds and you are not feeling any pressure and your feet don’t look swollen then you can wait and do your pregnancy even later. If you gained about 25 pounds already and you are not even on your 7th months then I suggest to do it earlier because on the 36
When should I do my photographs? Nowadays I say about 34-36 week of your pregnancy but if you been active during your pregnancy and didn’t get to much weight which is about 10-30 pounds and you are not feeling any pressure and your feet don’t look swollen then you can wait and do your pregnancy even later. If you gained about 25 pounds already and you are not even on your 7th months then I suggest to do it earlier because on the 36 weeks the baby drops and it becomes difficult for you to walk distances, frequent bathroom runs and painful to pose in certain ways. We want you to look comfortable and happy during your photographs.
What should I bring for my maternity photo session? You are welcome to bring any of your stuff if you want. It can be dresses, tops, skirts, pants, jeans, vests, coats, jackets, hats and shoes. I also have maternity dresses that I order from the specialty store that only creates dresses for the photographers and you are welcome to try them on and use for one of your photo shoots.
Can my husband be included? Of course, he has to be included, he is part of this beautiful creation which is in your belly. Unless you are doing this as a surprise for him. I request that you guys match either by colors or at least with the style. We don’t want your husband to wear sneakers, jeans, and t-shirt while you are in one of my maternity dresses.
Should we do it outside or in the studio? If you are searching for ideas online and all you like outside photographs because of their lighting, backgrounds and so on then you should do outside photos. It can be by any water, like lake, river or ocean. It can be in any park, like a regular park or botanical park. It can be down by the fields or outside in some small town or city. You have plenty of options where you can create beautiful photos. You just have to decide which one is your favorite and focus on that.
There is one thing that people never ask me is: What would you recommend me as photo products? Which I am asking you right now. What would you like to receive? Do you want large portraits so you can hang them on the walls? Do you want it to be a collection of portraits or maybe few large once? Do you want the album and have a collection of different photos. Do you want a folio box with beautiful prints that you can keep on your coffee table or have some of them hanging on the wall but you can always put them away if you like to change photos on your wall? Before you call the photographer you already have questions about your looks but you also have to have questions about how will I receive these photos? How do I want to cherish them?
To me, this is a very important question.
