I started talking to Kimberly while I was on vacation in Florida with my kids. I was about to open my studio and I knew I would be gone for hours and needed to start working with the fresh head. As a New Jersey Portrait Photographer, you don’t really get breaks from your clients, because there are constantly someone is reaching out to you with questions, it can be from prices, packages or people that really want to be photograph by you. We started talking over the phone and I wanted to find out what exactly she is looking for. After I came back, we met at local Starbucks for consultation and later on we set up a session appointment.
Kimberly’s first story that I heard from her is that she lost about 100 pounds and she was ready to do some photographs of herself. Right away I knew she was my ideal client. She has never done professional photos, we can pamper her for half a day and create some beautiful photographs for her. She came in and brought over 5 outfits for us to pick. We decided to go with more of a beachy look with her hair because we worried that curls could make her look older than she is. Makeup, that will only enhance her eyes and lips, we don’t apply any foundations on client’s skin. Out first choice was the bright pink color dress and then the beautiful blue dress that covered her shoulders and shows her body. Even though many large size women don’t like to show their curves because of stomachs, the tighter dresses for the photo shoot look much better in the photos than the loose dresses. After we finished her session which runs about 2 hours, she told me the even more beautiful story about her family. Kimberly has other two sisters and they have their photos hanging on her father’s walls, Kimberly never did any photos because she was shy about her weight. Her father has been asking her to give him a portrait of her so he can hang her photo next to her sisters.
Today she came to my studio and picked her favorite portraits. I am hoping that she will show her favorites to her father and I hope he will finally have a beautiful photograph of his daughter.
