As a New Jersey portrait photographer for so many years, I can tell you one thing, my ideas can go wild and sometimes I don’t know how to control them. This session was a great ice breaker for me, because I realized how much space in my studio I need and how we can create a great session. Everything you see was done in the studio at 312 Main Street in Metuchen. I used natural light and for the long dress shots, I added one big light and I had to do this because it started raining outside and got pretty dark for a natural light session.
This adorable five-year-old model came to me with her mother for the consultation. The whole time she was in the studio, she sat quietly and didn’t even move. Her mother asked me to do her modeling portfolio since she is in the critical age when all talent and modeling companies require their models to do photo sessions every six months since children are growing so fast. This very calm and very happy girl is just going to kindergarten, which was shocking to me. My daughter who is just going to first grade, would not stay still for a session like that. We had to do tease her hair and then brush it out and she stayed strong the whole time. I may say that the long dress and the crown were my ideas and she was getting really bored of that shoot but as soon we took her outside, she couldn’t stop jumping around. It definitely makes you realize quickly that the young models need a break like any other kid.
This was done last weekend, on a rainy day. We started from inside photo session and even though I prefer to work with my girl (Destini) when it comes to hair and makeup. Mom decided to bring her lady, who did the model’s hair. I tend to do this to people, this is why I like when Destiny comes in because she usually has everything and anything with her. She knows that at any point I can change things and ask for something else. I may say, that even with barely any tools, the hairdresser realized that this can be a fun shoot and she did her best to create something more than she expected from her task. For the photos where Anka-the beautiful model, is wearing her crown and this beautiful long dress, I asked the model’s hair to be teased and have more volume in her hair. I want it to look glamorous with the hint of fashion because I always want to add glamour to my client’s photos. Then we added some leaves to kind of throw the whole idea to another direction and our last two sessions were done in a beautiful floral dress which gave Anka some break and the most fun she had was in the leather jacket, outside. Thankfully, the rain stopped raining at that time and we went outside to photograph her around our building.
I love to keep classic poses, glamour shots for my women clients. I believe women look so much sexier that way and for children is more appropriate. So if you know someone who is looking for the model session, please let me know.
