It’s the end of August and I am getting ready to have Grand Opening at my Photo Studio in Metuchen. As a Portrait Photographer, I am always in the search for a space to take photographs of people. I used to have space at my house then, I rented from my ex-boss studio on the weekends, after he closed his doors and moved somewhere else, I worked as a freelancer basically photographing anywhere and everywhere. I got tired of that pretty quickly, especially in wintertime when everyone been asking me about the inside space, basically asking me if I had the studio. Photographing maternity, portraits, and family during winter is great and it’s always busy as well. Not having a space to bring people inside, I was basically losing customers and business. So having a studio has been on my mind for about a year. I kept telling my husband, I need a space especially for winter time. What really pushed me this year the most, is the death of my uncle.
My uncle who is only 16 years older than me, died this year from colon cancer. He was the photographer in our house. He had his mini-lab and did many photographs of our family. Later on, he stops doing it but being so little and playing with his dark room tools and things it kind of stuck with me. Since he passed away, I decided that being scared of a failure wasn’t the option for me anymore. I can’t be scared of something is just silly and since I always wanted my own studio, I need to do this not just for his honor but for my self as well. I may as well have maybe 20 more years to live and what am I spending that time? Definitely on not being scared of failure. If I fail at least I tried but I can say, I tried. I don’t want to think about negative things anymore. I changed my mind, I am trying to think only about positive things. Life is too precious to be scared to make a big jump. I jumped and inside of me, I know I am making a right decision.
So, my studio is located right next to the legend Forum Theater. I have about 400 sq of unique and old space. It is almost 100 years old building with high ceiling and great light. I just love that space and I photographed couple customers there already. I want to show you what my fabulous husband has done to this place. He has golden hands and a bright mind. My vision and his hard work helped us achieve the best space that is possible. I am on the budget and we spend couple thousands on everything but it’s all worth it.
