We all have parts of our jobs that are way too busy and hectic and we also have parts of our jobs that we really enjoy. My passion is and always has been a traditional portrait photography. Love to study and look through old photographs, see how women always stood in a gracious poses with tilted head, just enough for the lights to show their beauty. To tell you the truth, I do many events and family portraits that include too many people and always become loud, fast and sometimes uncontrollable. Doing quiet , very small sessions for newborn photography or portraits for one person just gives me that yin and yang energy. It calms me and allows me to enjoy my job as much. I would definitely get bored just to do portraits but it gives me peace when I need it the most. Photography business never lets you be bored.
I met this talented lady who used to be a theatrical designer and she is fabulous in every way. She can make costumes and set up backgrounds and build props for you too. I always wonder, where such talented people come from and how come there so few of them in this world! She has these costumes, that she wants to rent for regular folks for the holiday celebrations. For example like Santa Clause or snow maiden. I asked her to use one of the costumes for my youngest daughter and in exchange I would take photographs of it in details so she can put it on her website and Facebook. Then another great opportunity came along. She asked me to do another costume but for my older daughter to take pictures of ” Winter Queen” in Russian traditional style with boyar’s mini coat. The crown is more for the snow queen then of traditional Russian head piece ” kokoshnik” but the ideas was originated from the book ” The Snow Queen” by Hans Christian Andersen. He was one of the popular and well read writer in Russia. So many Russians love to have different winter characters for their New Year , Christmas holidays.
After doing this session, we are thinking of expanding the idea of photographing traditional portraits of children for now in traditional costumes and create them as the work of art. I have been in many people’s homes and I noticed that majority of us living in traditional interior design. So instead of having a painting hanging on your wall of something that you have no idea and no story behind, would you want the same size portrait of your child or grandchild in a beautiful old dress or traditional costume of your ancestors? We will do them in neutral backgrounds with warm tones in nice frames in canvas or prints. If you interested please let me know. We will start with Russian style for now since we have the knowledge and its closer to our hearts. If you have a costume already and you would like take advantage of our idea. Please contact me. We will gladly do this for you.
